Reporting a wrong figure
This is the most useful thing you can send, and it gets handled first. To make it actionable, please include:
- the exact inputs you used — filing status, income, gain, state;
- the figure the calculator gave and the figure you believe is correct;
- a source — an IRS publication, a Revenue Procedure section, or a state statute.
The Show your work panel on the calculator lists each step with its citation, which usually pinpoints exactly which figure is in dispute.
Asking us to add a state
The methodology page lists which states are verified and which are not. A state moves onto the list when its rate structure can be read from its tax code — a link to the right statute genuinely speeds that up.
What we cannot do
We cannot give tax advice, review your return, or answer questions about your specific situation. Please do not send tax identification numbers or other sensitive personal details. For advice about your own circumstances, speak to a CPA or enrolled agent.
